Obituary of Bruce Edmund Halpin
Obituary of Bruce Edmund Halpin/Letter to our Dad
On January 4, 2019 our sweet, kind hearted Dad passed away peacefully surrounded by his children. He made his living in the Paper Industry, beginning in Pine Falls, Man. He married Joan Wood in August 1958 and they began a family a year later. In 1964 he moved his family to Saint John, NB and finished his career with Irving Paper. He was a charter member of the Men of Fundy Barber Shop Chorus and sang with them for over 40 years.
Dad loved life, cooking all the time and making his favourite meals. He loved travelling, nature, hunting and fishing, golfing and most of all, he loved his family for whom he spent his life providing and caring. He was blessed with a great sense of humour that he managed to pass on to his children. We are forever grateful for that gift. Dad was a compassionate man with a strong moral compass and educated all of us in the necessity of sparing time and resources for those less fortunate.
If there is an afterlife, Dad may be gardening, duck hunting, or paddling a canoe with his parents and his older brother Ross somewhere in the wilds of Manitoba. Most probably he will be sitting patiently waiting for his girl, Joan, the love of his life for over 60 years.
Dad, we will miss your presence at family gatherings the most. Our houses will not be the same without your (mostly) funny jokes and your laughter filling the air. As sad as this time is for us, there is also a lot of love and laughter as we sit around and reminisce about you. We couldn’t have asked to share our lives with a better person. The memories we have of you are strong and will never be erased. We will pass them down to your great grandchildren that never had the chance to know you. Thank you for being our Dad.
The grandchildren lost a very good man in Grampa Bruce. He was a very happy and loving man who would do anything for his family and lived a good life in his home on the Kingston Peninsula. Grampa Bruce did most things he wanted in life and lived without regret. He is survived by his wife Joan, his son Scott (Janet), and their children: Kimberley (Darren), daughters Brenna and Keira, Amanda (Scott), daughter Madison, and Alexander; daughter Jolene (Jean), and their children: Erik, Rachel, Pierre Olivia, Elise; daughter Kristen, and her children: Jackie (Kyle) and Whitney (Chris); son William (Angela), and their children, Lily and Harry; daughter Leah, and her children, Matthew, Grace and Samuel. Bruce is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (849-2119) with visiting on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A celebration of Bruce's life will take place on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM from Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home Chapel. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Bruce may be made to any children's charity of one's choice.
