Obituary of Sydney Erb
The death of D. Sydney Erb occurred on Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Saint John, NB, March 22, 1944. He was the son of the late Howard W. Erb and Doris (Dibblee) Erb. He was predeceased by his wife Marie (Parlee) Erb in 2009 after 42 years of marriage. Syd grew up in Hampton and has since lived in West Saint John, South Bay and Quispamsis.
He is survived by his three sons: Peter & Heather Erb of Rothesay, Jeff & Lisa Erb of Quispamsis, and David & Renée Erb of Fredericton; seven grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah, Lauren, Avery, Evan, Kate and Ellie; brothers Brian Erb of Hampton and Everett Erb of Quispamsis; one nephew, Joseph Erb (Jessica) and his children Landen, Kayla and Anthony; as well as his special friend, Carol Graves and her family. He was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws Gordon & Jean Parlee; brother in law Fred & Gail Parlee and sister in law Betty & Cecil Damery.
Syd enjoyed family times with his grandchildren; time spent with his retired hospital buddies at Tim Horton’s; his routine breakfast outings with his friend Wilfred, and telephone chats from friends Bob and Murray.
Syd retired from a 40 year career in hospital service starting at the DVA Hospital and retiring from Saint John Regional Hospital in 2005. Syd was a former Scouter and a former member of the Men of Fundy. He was a member of True Life Church, and a former Associate Community Chaplain at Parkland in the Valley, Quispamsis. In earlier years he was in the church choir, a Ranger in the Boys Christian Service Brigade, and taught Sunday School.
Syd was an active member of the DVA Reunion Committee. He enjoyed golf, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, walking trails, and lots of country drives with his best friend Carol. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburg Penguins play a good game of hockey (the main player had an amazing name). Syd was known to be a joker, a tease and loved laughter.
