Barb, such sad news to learn of Eric's passing. I remember those years ago when we were skiing and you and Eric shared such a joy of life and sense of humor. The atmosphere you created was one of fun and you shared such a joy of life. It made everyone around you smile and enjoy.
As life does and often when we least expect it, there were rough times and sad events, but I know that you were supportive of each others in times of sorrow and also generously shared your compassion for others when they needed it.
You created a beautiful big blended family with many interests and your children and grandchildren will have memories of those shared times with you both. Eric was so generous and quick to help anyone out. This will be a huge loss for you but the grandchildren will remember and remind you of the happy times. Thinking of all of you. Sincere sympathy, Muriel

I met Eric in 1962/63 at Schefferville. I think it was his first posting. We worked together about six months but that was long enough for me to know Eric would make Radio operator a successful career. Please accept my sincere condolences and to Eric: RIP. Dit dah dit dah dit. Out.

When Eric.....and you Barb, came into our wine store to bottle a batch, fun instantly began, either by Eric sharing a silly story or asking a question or to to any or all assembled.....he just had that kind of fun and infectious personality. Although we didn't know him as well as we might have liked, Jo and I always enjoyed our occasional chats......always including stories from years past, coupled with current affairs or just about any other topic. Seemed there were always more than enough juicy items to talk of laugh about. I think many of us would like to be remembered in just such a cheery way. Great all 'round guy to many of us who met or got to know him, if even slightly. Our sympathies to you Barb and your families.....Peter LeBlanc and Joanne Abbott

Sincere Condolences to Barb and Family. I worked with Eric for most of my career in the Fed. Govt . We became friends especially after we both moved to Saint John. I think we have lost 8 to 10 of the employees from Fundy Marine Traffic Control. I was deeply sorry to read his obituary in the Telegraph Journal.

The Janes Family,
Our sincere sympathy for your loss. After reading Eric's obituary, I thought that yes, that is the Eric that I remember. I am a relative and was a kid cousin when we visited his house with his dad and mom 'uncle Bill and aunt Margaret'. Eric was always making someone laugh and what a great gift!
Later years, I worked with him, his brothers and uncle Bill on the family sawmill by Northwest Brook in Glovertown. The mill work was boring to a 14 year old until, I think I was in Grade 11, about 1967-68, and Eric was home for a summer vacation from Montreal driving a beautiful "jaw dropping" olive green Pontiac Firebird...wow, what a car! I wondered if someday I might have a car like that! I would have been working on the mill for a long time to have a car like that! That was the motivation to get a good Education ...thanks Eric!
I don't remember the horsepower, maybe a 350 or 400, and it had guts! I do remember that it was very low to the ground and when he drove it onto the sawdust road to the mill, which was full of deep rolling depressions that made a vehicle bounce along, it acted like a grader!! Nothing serious since the sawdust was soft ... no undercarriage left along his path!
I trust the family finds solitude from the great memories that you reflect on at this difficult time.
Sincere regards,
Cousin, Gordon Saunders (and Holly)

Gordon and Holly, 335 HP and did my dad love to talk about that car. Thank you for painting such a wonderful picture of him driving on the sawdust road. Yes it was a 1967 Firebird. New off the lot, and I think $3000 at the time. When I go to sleep tonight, I will try and picture him exactly this way. Thank you very much for sharing.

Barb, I was so saddened to hear of Eric’s passing. He was such a wonderfully cheerful soul with a knack for making everyone feel comfortable in his presence. I remember him always with a smiling face, on the ready with a witty comment or joke. Eric’s Newfoundland charm, sense of humour and wit shone thru him like a beacon. He was truly an impressive man and I know that your loss is immense. My sincerest condolences to you and your blended families.

Barb it was with great sadness that I learned of Eric's passing this afternoon. I was truly shocked as Eric was fit as a fiddle (a Newfoundland fiddle) the last time that I encountered him. As you may know, Eric and I spent two wonderful years in Schefferville at the same time. I was there longer but we certainly had lots in common during his stay. I thought the world of Eric and recall him as a handsome single guy. Treasure the memories that you created together. I, too, remember him so very fondly and was so surprised when I encountered him again so many years later here in Saint John.

We share with Barb and family, Eric’s family and Barb and Eric’s many close friends a terrible sense of loss, with the passing of our dear friend Eric.
Memories, so many great and pleasant memories come easily to mind and bring with them tears. Memories of weddings, including Barb and Eric’s wedding, of children’s weddings, the welcoming of grandchildren into the world and the leavings of parents and loved ones. Memories of many great meals prepared by Eric ( with some assistance from Barb) of small glasses of wine and some not so small glasses shared, of stories of Glovertown told and a few retold perhaps more than once, of travels to places near and far from France and Spain and the DR, drinks at the Mojito bar, and friends gathered from near and far. Songs, sung at parties, at concerts and some sung with just a few friends gathered are among the fond memories we have of Eric.
So many great memories of the many years we had Eric in our lives and for which we are so very grateful. Our hope for all those who loved Eric is that the memories will in time bring less tears and more soft smiles.
