Obituary of Margaret Florence Akerley
Margaret Akerley, wife of the late Walter Akerley passed away on June 27, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, after a prolonged battle with cancer. Born in Dipper Harbor on August 5, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Orville & Mary Thompson. Margaret worked at Downey Ford prior to retirement. She is survived by her daughters, Kelley (Owen) Duffley of Fall River, NS, Leslie (Harold) Cameron and grandson Alex Cameron of Elmsdale, NS. She was also survived by several nieces, Paula Overly of Columbus Ohio, Mary Lou MacDonnell and Krista Vienneau of Trenton, NS.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was pre-deceased by her husband Walter, sister Shirley Vienneau and brother Vernon Thompson. Margaret was a long time member of the KV Monday Afternoon Seniors Bowling League, KV Seniors Club and Royal Canadian Legion Branch #58. She was also a devoted pet lover who doted over her cat Tweeter. Margaret had many friends who became her extended family, Fiona McGrath, Stewart and Helena Hook, June Estey and Marion Cosman.
In keeping with Margaret's wishes, there will be no visitation, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Saint John SPCA-Animal Rescue League would be appreciated by the family. The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119).
