Obituary of Thelma Hattie Hatfield
The death of Thelma Hatfield, formerly of Grand Street, Yarmouth, NS, wife of the late Paul Lent Hatfield, occurred peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2013, at her home in Kingston. Born in Yarmouth on November 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Stella (Gill) Goodwin.
Thelma was educated in Yarmouth and graduated with honours from the Yarmouth Academy upon successfully completing various commercial courses. In her earlier years, Thelma was employed with Yarmouth Royal Stores at The Men's Shop. She also spent many happy years working at the Yarmouth Mermaid Motel. Thelma finally retired from the Yarmouth Grand Hotel where she was employed as the private secretary for Mr. Wilmot Dean. She was passionate about gardening and had received many Mayflower Awards from the Town of Yarmouth for her beautiful Grand Street home flower gardens. Thelma also enjoyed curling and bowling.
Thelma is survived by four sons, Paul and Larry (Dodie) both of Yarmouth, Greg (Melanie) of Kingston and Brian of Bowmanville, ON; special grandchildren, Melinda, Amie, David, Scott, Kelly, Holly, Steven, Jeffery, Megan and Keltie; thirteen precious great-grandchildren and two sisters, Marjorie Hamilton of White Rock, BC and Margaret Larsen of Hudson, QC. She was predeceased by her son, Jack.
As per Thelma's wishes, no visitation will be held. A graveside service will be held at Mountain Cemetery, Yarmouth, on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 2:00 PM. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506) 849-2119.
