Peter MacIntosh posted a condolence
My deepest condolences to Harold's family. Long ago in North Sydney Harold and I were close friends at school and St. Matthew-Wesley United Church. We were on the Thompson Jr. High School chess team, and we even played chess over the telephone! Harold was such a gentle, fun person. While we drifted apart over the years, Harold was a central part of my youth in North Sydney. Very sorry to hear of your loss. Peter MacIntosh

I am so sorry and shocked to read of Harold's death. It is so hard to believe that you and Harold have been married for 15 years. I met Harold whrn he first came to Saint John. He spent a short time staying with "The Burks" on Bedell Ave.,friends of mine. ( I was working in the dietary dept. at the hospital at the time.) He was such a gentle, quiet nice young man, and we would have conversations from time to time. When he met you, and startd the travelling adventures, and eventually married, I was so happy for you both. The years go by so fast but some things and people stay in your memory always. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Marie, Marieve and family. We worked with Harold for a number of years at Charlotte County Hospital. We loved to hear his numerous stories about his travels and we especially remember his great sense of humour. The testosterone puffer he made for me helped me cope in the early years with a department full of women. One of our favorite summer dishes is the zucchini, ketchup and basil casserole recipe he gave me years ago. We are all very saddened to hear of the passing of this wonderful person.

Marie and Marie-Eve, I am thinking of you both and sending warm thoughts to both of you. Harold was a dear friend and a very special coworker. I was lucky to have gotten to know him and share time with him. He taught me so much about life and true strength. Most of our time was spent talking about our families and I wish I could have captured how his eyes shone and how he brightened everytime he spoke of you both. Everything he did was for his ladies. He was a wonderful person and I will miss his friendship dearly. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. He would do the same for my family. I regret I will not be there to attend the services as I am in Newfoundland with my dad. However I will be there in spirit. I know Harold would have told me to go and I know when its my dads turn to go, Harold will be there to meet him for me. I know there is nothing I can say to take the pain away, but know all he shared with me in our years of working together was his love for you both. Your friend, Donna

Harold completed the undergraduate dietetics program with internship in the Department of Applied Human Nutrition at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax in 1995. After many years and many students, each member of the AHN department recalled a happy memory of Harold. He was an excellent student, respectful of others, and a valued team member. He had a positive energy around him that was contagious. Harold was a true ambassador for the profession of dietetics as he touched the lives of students through mentorship, fellow co-workers and patients. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.

I was privileged to have shared a few brief conversations with Harold working as a nurse on 4BSouth. Although I did not know him well, the chats that we had centred almost entirely on his family! He was so proud of his daughter and would lovingly show any photos that he had-his eyes shone when he looked at the images on the screen. Harold was also tremendously knowledgable and so kind to our patients. I am so very sorry for your loss. May you take some small comfort in knowing that you and your daughter could not have been more loved!

Marie and Marieve I have been reading the condolences and what a wonderful testimony for a wonderful husband, papa and man. I have worked with both you and Harold for years. I can not think of Harold without having a giggle. He lived life to the fullest and is truly the only person I ever met who had such a great sense of values and humor. We shared a hallway and the folks from the offices in that hallway felt a certain kinship and yes we were the brunt of little digs and participated in many philosophical discussions. He knew what was important and lived his life accordingly. How wonderful to have experienced such a wonderful man as husband and proud father. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Patti Gallagher
