Obituary of Ronald Joseph Northorp

Ronald Joseph Northorp of Rothesay, went to be with his precious Lord on April 16, 2013, at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John, at the age of 92. Ron was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Audrey (Trumble) in 1980 and his second wife, Edna (Wilbur) in 2010. Born in Lakeside, he was the son of the late Gerald and Emma (Gallop) Northorp. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him, especially by his children, Gerald (Karen) of New Jersey, Audrey of Saint John, Bernice (Bill) Gerrard of Rothesay, Richard (Brenda) of Saint John, Joseph of Mill Cove, John of Fredericton and Joy (Rusty) Bickford of Maine; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several step-children; brother, Gerald (Gloria) of Oromocto; sister-in-law, Nancy of Ontario and many nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his son, Peter; sisters, Geraldine, Pearl Furness, Mildred "Betty" Dow and Ruby Meagher; as well as brothers, Robert, Ernest and Richard. Ron was a New Brunswick Ranger from 1939 - 1940 and was a proud and decorated veteran of WWII who served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1940 - 1969. He continued his working career as a Millwright at Lantic Sugar, retiring in 1985. Ron was a dedicated Christian who served the Lord most of his life as a Deacon and in any other capacity in which he was asked. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed prospecting, rock collecting, golfing, hunting and fishing. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (849-2119), with visitation on Monday, May 6, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:30 - 9:00 PM with a Tribute to a Veteran service being held at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held from Main Street Baptist Church, 211 Main Street, Saint John, on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at 2:00 PM and will be immediately followed by a reception. Interment will take place in Rothesay Baptist Cemetery, at a later date.
