Sending our deepest condolences to Cathy and Family. Very proud to have spent lots of time at the rink with Gerald, he was the epitome of class and the definition of a stand up guy. Such a great uncle and mentor to Ryan and Tyler , who I was lucky to coach in the past number of seasons. The world needs more people like Gerald, and his passing is devastating for our community. We are all better people for having known him. Nothing but respect for the great man he will always be!

Ken Scott posted a condolence
So sad to hear about Gerald. I first meet Gerald at Technology school January 1981. What a great guy. We became good friends. He and I were partners in second year on the instrument project that all second years had to do. We accomplished the project, a very important part of second year . I remember him coming to my apartment on Douglas ave for a week for the 2 of us to cram it all together. Soon after we graduated, I moved to Edmonton in August, 1982. Gerald called me sometime in that fall to ask about work. I said if you come, you will get a job, he came and yes he got a job. He lived with Cathy and I from October to December. He was still living at his parents home when he moved out. At night when he watched me make my lunch, he said gees Ken couple of those sandwiches would be great. Gerald learned to make sandwiches. One night, my Cathy said get him to wash his bedding/ clothing, his room is starting to smell. I asked Gerald if he knew how to do a wash, No was the answer. I gave him a crash course. I will never forget helping him fold his laundry and rolling the socks together. He said, wow, is that how mom did that. Such was Buckley. Buckley, was home sick, or better put, love sick. Cathy, it was clear that he missed you. I remember talking to him saying you can go home for Christmas to see her. Oh yes, for sure Im going. He says, speaking about that , would it be possible to use your visa. He was a little low on cash at the time. I said , sure, no problem, we will go this weekend. Driving to the mall that weekend, I said do you have something in mind. Oh yes, I thinking a Fur Coat. I almost drove off the road. I said, Buckley, you are just getting on your feet and I dont think you can afford that, and not sure my visa can handle that. We got to the mall, I think we went for a beer, and I had a chat with him about some more affordable gifts. I cannot remember what he decided on, but I know he bought it and I certainly knew he loved you very much. I remember taking him to the airport for his trip home, I knew he would not be coming back. He was a great person . I loved him, and unfortunately didnt see him enough, living in different parts of the country. He tracked me down I think when I was home in 2013, we had a great visit. I will always miss his happy smile and great attitude. So sorry Cathy for your loss. Love , Ken Scott.
