Obituary of Edward William John Thornton

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Edward William John Thornton of Quispamsis, NB on Monday, Feb 18, 2019, at Embassy Hall – Parkland in the Valley, Quispamsis, NB. He was born in Toronto, Ontario on Feb 28, 1930 to the late Harry and Alfreda (Heaslip) Thornton. Ed spent his youth in Huntsville, Ontario and graduated from Queens University with a B.SC in Mining Engineering in 1952. His distinguished engineering career saw him work in many communities throughout Canada. He met his wife and lifelong partner, Margaret, in Chibougamau, Quebec and they married in 1961. He spent the majority of his career in Bathurst, New Brunswick finally retiring in Truro, Nova Scotia in 1988. Ed was passionate about his family and always looked forward to spending time at the cottage in Beresford, NB and swimming in the Bay de Chaleur. Forever proud of his Irish heritage, Ed was keenly interested in exploring genealogy. He enjoyed playing hockey, which he did until age 82. Ed will be sadly missed by his children, Janet (Shawn) McNulty of Quispamsis NB, Sean (Bev) of Rossland, BC, Mike of Fernie, BC, and Jim of Truro, NS.; granddaughters Megan MacLean, Lauren McNulty and Courtney McCormick; great grandchildren Violet and Liam. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Margaret and his sister Marg Walker. According to the wishes of the family, there will be no visitation. Funeral service and burial will take place in the spring in Omemee, Ontario. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119). The family would also like to give a special thanks to the staff at Parkland in the Valley – Embassy Hall in Quispamsis, NB for the loving care, compassion and support provided to Ed and our family during his final months.
