Obituary of Ann Mary Kent
With celebration of a life well lived, the family of Ann Mary Kent sadly announces her passing which occurred on Monday February 18th, 2019 at Parkland in the Valley nursing home, Quispamsis. Born Hanya Kvasnak on February 3rd, 1933 in Port McNicoll, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Stefan and Verona (Visocky) Kvasnak.
Ann is survived by her children: Pamela of Kingston, David (Linda) of Passekeag, Kevin (Dawn Tabor) of Kingston and Alison (Sat Gill) of Burnaby, BC; and by three sisters Helen (Mike Dubbin), Katie (John Quinlan) and Elaine (Ivor Stubson). She was predeceased by her loving husband J.J., a son Michael Thomas and by her brother Rudy Kvasnak (Wanda). G.G. (Great-Gramma) will be sorely missed by her seven grandchildren, their spouses and by her eight great-grandchildren.
People in the KV will remember Ann and J.J. for being the proprietors of Kent’s Variety Store on the Old Rothesay Road in Kingshurst-East Riverside, a place where you could count on getting that last minute gift or Hallmark card or bread, milk or the best penny candy. It was actually the "second" Kent’s Variety Store - the first one being on 4th Avenue in Port McNicoll – a similar venture. An avid competitor (a trait passed on to the entire Kent Clan), Ann enjoyed racquetball, badminton, golf and other activities. She was a member of several bridge clubs, loved her time with the Sunshine Girls and was active with the CWL and Hospice. Stricken with Parkinson’s disease in her early fifties, Ann never let it interfere or stop her from enjoying any family or social activities. She battled the physically debilitating disease right until the end – her mind sharp but her body ever in decline.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119). There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday February 22nd at 11:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 31 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay. A celebration of Ann’s life will be held in the reception hall following the Mass. Donations in Ann’s memory can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation (at Parkinson.org) or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
