Obituary of James Robert McMackin
It is with heavy hearts that the family of James "Jim" Robert McMackin, husband of Ruth (Daigle) McMackin, announce his passing on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his family in song and prayer. Born on April 22, 1936 in Upham, NB, Jim was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah (Meehan) McMackin.
Before sustaining a life-altering brain injury in 1975, Jim was very involved with volunteerism, particularly with his Church, an institution that remained very important to him until the end of his life. He was a loyal and loving husband and was committed to his children, attending all of their activities with pride. After his injury he inspired those children and all who loved him with his patience, perseverance, acceptance and interest in everyone. Jim loved music, tea, Tim Hortons coffee, cards and bowling. He was particularly proud of his employment at Dominion Stores and of his VW watch, given to him when his cherished "bug" hit 100,000 miles. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus and for twenty-five years the KV Seniors.
Besides his beloved wife Ruth, he is survived by his sons Michael (Alison) McMackin of Moncton, and Christopher (Kimberley VanWart) McMackin of Quispamsis; daughters Michelle Anderson of Saint John, and Joanne (Lloyd) Jackson of Ontario; grandchildren: Brodie, Emily, Claire, Sarah, Carter, Amy, Kevin and Matthew; brothers Elward (Phyllis) of Hampton, Joseph (Barb) of Hammondvale, Pat (Ruby) of Sussex, Andy (Maureen) of Ontario, and Henry of Ontario; sisters Roberta (late Ronald) Bourque of Quispamsis, Donna (Mike) McPhee of Quispamsis, Mary Mahoney of Sussex and Barb (Norman) Seeley of Rothesay.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; brothers, David, Bernie and Peter; sisters Anna McMackin and Josie (the late Bert) Beyea, as well as his best friend Doug.
Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road (849-2119), with visiting on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 3-8 PM. A Knights of Columbus prayer service will take place at 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mark's Catholic Church on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 10:00 AM with a reception to follow in St. Mark's church hall. Interment will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Norton. Remembrances may be made to the KV Food Basket or St. Mark's Church Building Fund.
