Obituary of William Archibald McKay
It is with heavy hearts and respect of a life well lived, the family of William Archibald McKay, loving husband of Pearl (DeBow) McKay, announce his passing at Ridgewood Veteran's Wing on Thursday, July 26, 2018. Born in Scotland on June 29, 1926 he was a son of the late John and Helen (Cruikshank) McKay.
William served with the Navy from 1944 to 1946, and went on to work at the Dry Dock until retirement. He was an avid sportsman, coached softball and hockey, and was one of the oldest active referees' in the province for minor hockey. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.
He was an active member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Hammond River.
Special thanks are due to the Nurses and Caregivers at Ridgewood for the wonderful care and nursing over the past 5 years.
In addition to his wife Pearl, William is survived by his sons: Bill (Wendy), Doug (Joanne), Peter and Michael; daughters: Cheryl Deasington and Deborah Milton (Lawrence Cody); 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Ian, Margaret and Eva.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visitation on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 2 Hammond River Road, Quispamsis on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of William may be made to Alzheimer Society, Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ridgewood Veteran's Wing, or a charity of the donor's choice.
