Obituary of Gerald Robert Hastings
Surrounded by his family, the passing of Gerald Robert Hastings, husband of Marjorie (Dykeman) Hastings, occurred on January 18 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Born in Amherst, NS on May 9, 1932, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Maude E. (Milner) Hastings. Gerald was employed at Robb Engineering in his younger years, then with the Federal Government. He was a member of the Brunswick Street Baptist Church in Fredericton for several years before moving to Quispamsis, where he became a member of Kennebecasis Baptist Church. Gerald enjoyed woodworking, making furniture and cabinets. He enjoyed spending time at his summer homes in Amherst Shore, and later at Lake George with his family.
Besides his wife Marjorie, Gerald is survived by his sons; Mark (Cathie) of London, ON, Kevin (Cynthia) of Quispamsis NB, and Barry of Edmonton, AB, brothers; Ronald of Amherst, NS, and Eldon (Hilda) of Halifax, NS, grandchildren: Emily and Justin Hastings, Heather Whyte, Shannon Edsas, and Matthew Clare, great grandchildren Desmond, Grace, Jon-Erik, Elijah nieces: Janet Baxter and Karen Veniot, Donna Larooi, Carole Smith, and Cheryl Purdy, nephews: Brian Hastings, Ronald Lowerison, Gregory Smith, and David Purdy.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, sisters: infant Gladys, Grace Hastings, Frances Smith, Greta Purdy, Marion Lowerison, and nephew Jeffrey Hastings.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119). A memorial service will be held at Kennebecasis Baptist Church , 383 Hampton Road, Quispamsis, on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 2 PM with brief visitation at 1 PM and a reception following the service. Interment to take place at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to your charity of choice.
