Obituary of Hazel Patricia McLean
Hazel Patricia McLean (née Bassett) of Rothesay New Brunswick, Canada - passed away peacefully on Sunday July 30, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. She was 87 years of age.
Hazel was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Jane (née Nesbitt) Bassett, wife of the late Edward ("Ted") W.B. McLean, and beloved mother of Edward Bassett McLean (Katherine). She is survived by her son Edward (Katherine) of Quispamsis, NB; her niece Patricia Leswick (Terry) of Calgary, AB; her great nephew Nicholas Leswick (Katie) and their children (Brams and Jane) of Ottawa, ON; and her step children - John E. McLean (Susan), William R. McLean (Diana), Richard W. McLean (Debbie), Hugh H. McLean IV (Catherine; both deceased) and their children of Ajax, Bowmanville, and Pickering, ON. She is predeceased by her sisters Jeanie London (née Bassett) of Ladysmith, BC and Mary Bassett of Belfast, Northern Ireland.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Past President of the Ladies Section of the Union Club, Past Regent of the Duke of Rothesay Chapter I.O.D.E., former member of the Kennebecasis Garden Club, former member of the Riverside Golf & Country Club, and former member of the Friends of Hospice.
Hazel’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Saint John Regional Hospital (5A North, 4A North and 3A North) for all their care and support in Mum’s final weeks.
As per Hazel's request there will be no visitation or formal funeral service. A private interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John, NB. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (506-849-2119). A Celebration of Life will be held at Shadow Lawn Inn, 3180 Rothesay Road, Rothesay, NB on Saturday August 26, 2017 from 2 – 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to charity of choice.
