Obituary of Gerald Ralph Maynard
It is with heartfelt sadness, the family of Gerald "Tudge" Ralph Maynard, of Tynemouth Creek, husband of Pat (Ellis) Maynard, announce his passing on November 9, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 10, 1945, in Fairfield, NB, he was a son of the late Ralph and Mary (Weston) Maynard. Fondly known as Tudge since childhood, he was the oldest son and second child. He grew up on Quinns Hill, surrounded by Weston uncles and cousins, and making friends that would last a lifetime.
Tudge graduated from Simonds High School in 1964, and by 1973 had three cherished daughters, who were his pride and joy. He built their family home in Bains Corner, where they resided for 30 years.
In 2002, Tudge and Pat moved to their current piece of paradise in Tynemouth Creek, and a year later he retired from Irving Paper after 33 years.
Tudge kept active in his retirement years, building a garage and adding an addition on to the house. He spent the summers touring in the POPATOP (VW camper). Tudge also enjoyed his monthly Irving Mill retiree breakfast club.
In 2018, he drove to Ontario and returned with a 1964 Volvo 544, the same model and car he had in the 60's. He spent the remainder of his life restoring it, taking it apart and putting it back together several times.
Tudge was the most wonderful and humorous person you could ever meet and once he entered the room it would become filled with laughter. But most importantly, he was the best husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed terribly.
Besides his loving wife of 57 years, Pat, he is survived by his loving daughters and son in-laws, Shelley and Danny Goguen, Tracy and Glen Taylor, Brenda and Shawn Mollins, grandchildren; Morgan Taylor, Zachery Taylor, Meghan Goguen and Spencer Mollins.
He was a brother to Eric Maynard (Nancy) and Sandra Reed (Bill), brother in-law to Eugene O'Leary and Carol Ellis (Junior). Tudge was an awesome Uncle to Dan, Lynn, Leigh, Donnie, and Sandy O'Leary, Derek and Kari Maynard, Vanessa and Billy Reed, Christine, Tim, Rhonda, Sarah, and Tyler Ellis, his lifelong friend Ted Rankin, and his cat Mea.
Tudge was predeceased by his beloved sister Toss (Frances) O'Leary, his parents, and in-laws; Charlie and Marion Ellis.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119), with visitation on Thursday, November 14, from 1-4 and 6-8 PM. A Private family service will be held on Friday. Interment will take place at Browns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tudge can be made to the "Volvo 544 Restoration Project" or to the Stoneybrook Veterinary Services.
