Obituary of James Henry Hope

Jim died peacefully on September 29, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.  

Jim was born on September 23, 1932 in Shropshire England to Mabel and James Hope.  He is survived by his wife Nancy (Brown) of 55 years, his sons; Jamie (Jill) Hope and Jeff (Janet) Hope of Quispamsis, sisters Chris (Graham) Smith and Cynthia (Ray) Worsey in England as well as nieces and nephews in England and extended family in Canada.

He was the proud grandfather to Julia, Rachel, Gregory and Ryan who lovingly referred to him as their Bly. 

After serving in the Royal Air Force for 22 years, travelling throughout the world, he made Canada his home with Nancy and his sons.  He retired in 1992 from Maritime Beverages Ltd.

Jim was a member of the Kennebecasis Lions Club for 48 years. In 2000, he received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship award from Lions International.  

He was extremely active with youth sports in the greater Saint John area.  For more than 20 years Jim spent countless hours coaching, managing and scheduling within Saint John Soccer and KVMHA.  In 2001 he was awarded the first ‘Unsung Hero Award’ by KVMHA.

Jim and Nancy loved camping. They spent 20 years at TNT campground in Coles Island, where Jim served as the unofficial groundskeeper and tournament organizer at the campground’s golf course.

In retirement Jim focused on his golf game at Hampton Golf Club during the summer months and many courses in Florida over the winters.  He and Nancy wintered in St. Petersburg Florida which he thoroughly enjoyed.  He continued to volunteer and organize events at the Crosswinds and Colony mobile home parks.

Jim was an extremely social person who loved spending time with family and friends. He was always up for any activity which included a game of cards, shuffleboard or of course golf.  He will be missed by many.

Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119) with visiting on Thursday from 4-7PM. Funeral Service will be held at Kennebecasis Baptist Church, 383 Hampton Road, Quispamsis, on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11AM. Donations in his memory can be made to the Kennebecasis Lions Club, Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
