Obituary of Dorothy Mae Merryweather

Surrounded by the love of her family, Dorothy Mae Merryweather, wife of the late Frank Merryweather, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Shannex Embassy Hall, Quispamsis.

Born on July 23, 1933, in Ottawa, ON, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Rose (St. Onge) Finnegan. Dot was a teacher at St. Martins Elementary School for many years until her retirement. She was an amazing teacher, the kind that prepared her lesson plans at the dining room table on Sunday night and knew her students individually, resulting in her being able to create effective learning paths for each of them.

In the mid 70’s, she won the St. Martins Old Home Week Rolling Pin Throwing contest.  She was a long-standing member of the ACW and enjoyed many afternoons and evenings with her quilting group, hosting quilting every Saturday and Wednesday evening during the winter months.

Dot was an avid reader and loved to travel. She visited Hawaii, Australia, Europe, the Caribbean and many places in Canada and the United States. Dot was an intensely competitive cribbage and Scrabble player. She also loved puzzles, knitting, and crocheting. Dot was a wonderful cook; she was famous for her cinnamon rolls.

Dot was a loyal and devoted friend, but most of all her family was all-important to her. She was so proud of her family. She was a proud grandmother of three and recently becoming a great grandmother to Max.

Dot is survived by her sons; Bill of Toronto, ON, and James (Lisa) of Quispamsis, daughters; Bette Merryweather (Sylvain Gadbois) of Fredericton, Barb Robillard (Amber) of Australia, and Susan Reid (Jeff) of Quispamsis, grandchildren; Julia Cucinelli (Adam), Ben Reid (Laura Palmer), and Rachel Reid, great grandson Max Cucinelli, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Besides her parents and husband, Dot is predeceased by her brother Harold Finnegan, sister Viola Marks, and son Frankie Merryweather.

The family wishes to thank the Nurses and Staff of Shannex, Embassy Hall for their care and compassion for Dot over the years.

Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119) with visiting on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
