David Ganong

Obituary of David Albert Ganong

It is with sadness in their hearts that the family of David A. Ganong, husband of Mary (Steeves) Ganong, announces his passing on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Sussex Health Centre. David was born on December 14, 1945, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

David will be remembered as the tinkerer of his family. He loved to build things and work on projects around the house. One of his favourite mediums was working with tile and he really enjoyed projects that involved him using his tiling skills. He enjoyed fixing things, even if he would often take the hardest route to get those said things fixed. If you ever found your hammer missing or a piece of wood you had plans for suddenly gone, there was a good chance David found a use for it, as he liked to keep busy and find things to do around the house. When David had his health, he loved dancing. He and Mary would often be found on the dance floor doing square dancing to country music together. He also enjoyed playing cards with his stepson Ben, especially Crib. He also enjoyed the games Option 45’s and Pass the Ace. David had a love for animals and took a special bond with his black cat, Lily. David’s family hopes you will remember him when you hear a country music song or find yourself tinkering away on a project.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary Ganong; his stepsons, Ken (Sheila) Steeves and Ben (Cathy) Hovey; his brother, Wayne Ganong; his aunt and uncle, Bobby and Debbie Dorcas; beloved grandchildren: Lyra, Maiya, Nathan and Jessica and special great-grandson, Alexander. He was predeceased by his uncles Zederick and Winston Dorcas.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis, (506-849-2119). In keeping with David’s wishes there will be no funeral service or visitation. For those who wish donations to the SPCA would be appreciated by the family.
