Sharing a lovely poem written by a dear friend:
A Public Health Gem
Another of our dear friends
Has been taken home to rest
Joanne was a ray of sunshine
And one of the very best.
A gal from “The French Connection”
It was not difficult to tell
Her accent pleasing to the ear
While speaking English very well.
Vibrant and loving the outdoor life
Good natured and full of fun
Bouncy curls with sparkling eyes
Joanne embraced life on the run.
She kept in touch with friends
Both present and from long ago
Always engaging in conversation
Loving those she came to know.
Each of her relationships was special
David and Michael were number one
Very dear to their mother’s heart
She was so proud of her two sons.
Camille and Stephanie completed the family
The circle of love spreading hope and joy
Embracing her ‘daughters’ with open arms
The chosen lifelong partners of her boys.
She cherished Louis, Maisie and Lily
They added so much joy to her heart
Delighted to become a grandmother
Honored by “Mémé’s bench” in the park.
Steve was Joanne’s lifelong partner
Going on adventures both near and far
The cottage on Belleisle Bay was a favourite
Steve her steadfast shining star.
As the “spark plug” of activities
She could really get things done
Like a surprise party in the park
Or engaging students in ”healthy” fun.
Whether a triathlon, climbing mountains
Or having a game of pickle ball
Transporting kids or delivering food to sick friends
Joanne managed to do it all.
Joanne will always be with us
In the caring that we show
Or our good-natured fun times
Or cheering on those we know.
Her positivity shone through
Despite the battle that she fought
We have been blessed to know her
And we will miss her a whole lot.
Forever in our hearts
Toujours dans nos coeurs

Dear Steve & Family,
I am sending heartfelt condolences to you on the loss of a wonderful friend. No matter what we did, whether it was canoeing, white water rafting, skiing or just out for a beautiful walk it was always accompanied with so much laughter. She embraced life to the fullest at every moment. I know she is in heaven, no longer in pain & probably organizing events & loving it. She always called me on our wedding anniversary and because I sent her a Christmas card every year this was her way of reciprocating. She was the kindest & most gentle person I have ever met, to me she was always "a child at heart" & I shall truly miss her.

My deepest condolences to Steve, David, and Michael. What a huge loss for your family and for the community. Joanne was such a wonderful, bright light. I will never forget her wonderful smile. I have such found memories growing up with her and her family as my neighbours. I remember her bringing banana muffins over when we moved (I still use her recipe) and one time she came to check in when my dad got stung on his face by a bee. She was a generous and caring human, I have no doubt she touched countless lives and know that she will be deeply missed by many.

To Steve and family
Joanne was such a a wonderful person. Our time of working together was filled with her sharing her nursing expertise, her wonderful care that she provided to her clients, her smile, her laughter, her grace.
She was always a willing participant in all of the skits, singing and themed parties of the public health staff.
She taught me what a public health nurse can do to change people's lives both our clients and each other. She was a special person and I am so grateful that I knew her. Rest in peace Joanne. Hugs to her family at this difficult time.

Our sincere condolences to the Coates family. We met Joanne and family through badminton. She was the sweetest lady and always so kind to all of the children - even transporting a group of them to Caraquet a couple of years in a row for a badminton camp. We will always remember her sweet smile and her kind heart.
