Obituary of Herb Stanley

It is with heartfelt sorrow, the family of Herbert “Herb” Jamieson Stanley, husband of Elspeth “Sandy” Stanley, announce his passing on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born on November 5, 1942, in St. John’s, NL, he was the son of the late Herbert and Mary (Adey) Stanley. Herb was employed as a surveyor and steel estimator for several years with Ocean Steel/Strescon until his retirement. He was a member of the Kennebecasis Lions Club for over 40 years and enjoyed helping his community. Herb was the guy everyone called if they needed anything fixed or built.

He enjoyed a lifetime passion for camping and developing friendships with the people he met along the way. His favorite spot being TNT campground in Coles Island where he grew his love for golf. His favorite course was the Welsford golf course.

Herb loved his many road trips he took with his loving wife and adorable children. The most significant road trip being his and Sandy’s trip across Canada to Alaska and back with longtime friends.

Herb is survived by his loving wife Elspeth “Sandy” Stanley of almost 56 years, his children; Michael Stanley (Margaret Lee) of Toronto, and Wendy Soucy (Carl) of Quispamsis, sister Pauline Wadland of St. John’s, grandchildren; Zackary and Isaac Soucy, brother in law Peter Fraser, sister in law Allyson Cormier, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Herb was predeceased by his parents, his sister Rosemary Fraser, brother in law David Stanley, brother-in-law Joseph (Babes) Cormier and his in-laws.
