Obituary of Meredith Lyon

It is with great sadness and appreciation of a life well lived, the family of Audrey Meredith Spooner Lyon, announce her passing on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Kings Way Care Centre. She had recently celebrated her 102nd birthday.

Born in Hampton, NB January 29, 1922, Meredith was the younger daughter of the late Charles and Doris Spooner Lyon. She grew up in a close family with her lifelong best friend and sister Norie. The two Lyon girls enjoyed many adventures together. Forever a caretaker, she thought first of family and those close to her before herself. Over Meredith’s lifetime she cared for, first her parents and aunts, later for her dear sister Norie. Meredith was employed with Veteran’s Affairs for many years, retiring from the Bank of Nova Scotia. A highlight of her career was the year she worked in Vancouver, enjoying the community and developing friendships there.

Meredith was one of the original residents of Kings Way Care Centre, residing there for nearly 16 years. She was well loved and cared for by the staff, whom she cared for as well. She grew many strong friendships with them and their families. Her family is forever grateful for those relationships.

She was known for her smile, sharp wit, strength of mind, resilience and strong will. She had a deep caring for the people in her life and became an adopted mother, aunt, or grandmother to many. Besides family and faith, discipline was a guiding principle of her life. You could set your clocks and calendars by her weekly phone calls. A meticulous record keeper, both on paper and in her memory, she had a remarkable mind. Meredith was skilled in many crafts including crochet, stained glass and painting.

Aunt Meredy is survived by her niece Noreen Burnett Gilliland (Ross) of Quispamsis, nephew Gordon Burnett (Mary) of Rothesay, cousin David Bateman (Sharleen) of New Glasgow NS, great nieces and nephews: Kelvin Gilliland (Katie) their children Leah and Riley, Benjamin Burnett, Brian Gilliland (Josée) their children Lucas and Jacob, and Laura Burnett (Alex). Besides her parents, Meredith is predeceased by her sister Nora Lyon Burnett and special aunt Ida Lyon Bateman.

She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119). Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024, from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay at 11:00 AM, with visitation from 10-11AM. Interment to take place at Riverbank Cemetery, Norton at a later date. For those who wish, donations in memory of Meredith can be made to Kings Way Care Centre.
