Obituary of Gail McKay
It is with broken hearts that the family of Gail McKay announces her unexpected passing on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Gail was born on February 6, 1962, in Saint John, NB, and was the daughter of the late David and Erma (Bates) Griffith.
Gail will be remembered as a loving mother who took great pride in raising her sons. She was a caring person who would be there for anyone when they needed her. Gail worked as a homecare worker, which is another testament to her caring and loving nature. She was a listening ear and an open mind for anyone who needed a little advice or just someone to listen to them. Gail loved country music but especially enjoyed listening to Fleetwood Mac. As a kind and gentle person, naturally animals loved Gail. She had a special relationship with her Boston Terrier Midnight, even teaching him to sleep under the blankets with her. Gail was a talented and crafty person who was skilled in making quilts and recently was teaching others the art of quilting. In 2009 she married the love of her life; Colby McKay and her family finds comfort knowing that she and Colby are now reunited in Heaven. Her family asks that you remember Gail when you pet a cute dog or hear a Fleetwood Mac song.
She is survived by her sons Shawn and James Long; sisters, Dawn (Ray) Snider and Rhonda (Ray) Goucher; brother, Ronnie (Denise McRae); her lifelong best friend, Debbie Bettle; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Gail was predeceased by her husband, Colby McKay; her daughter, Sarah Long and her parents.
Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis (506-849-2119). In keeping with Gail’s wishes a private family ceremony will be held at a later date. For those who wish donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by her family.
