I first met Brenda at KVHS. She stood out with her height and athletic abilities, but we did not travel in the same social circles.
Our one interaction at KV came a day she noticed I was distraught, and expressed sympathy to me - not something that happens every day between strangers at high school - but an event so normal for her that she did not recall it when I brought it up many years later.
About 20 years after graduation, our paths crossed again for a few months and in that time I was given the chance to get to know her better as a person. I wish high school me had been braver and wiser, because she was a person of real quality.
She was an absolutely lovely spirit, wise and caring. She had experienced loss and her words of advice helped me deal with my own.
She was kind, artistically gifted, and a pleasure to speak with or spend time with. She was also and above all else a very loving mother.
As life happens I had not seen her in several years but she is remembered with great fondness.
Others have spoken of her faith, which was the real deal. I hope it is a comfort to her loved ones to know that she did not leave this life unprepared for the next one, but lived in the knowledge that her destination was eternal. She embodied the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Life is too short, and I wish I had been able to spend more time with her. My sincere condolences to her friends and family.

Dear Richard, and the extended Loughery family:
Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. I was shocked to hear this sad news, as Brenda was only a few months younger than me.
Mom just forwarded this obituary to me, as Richard & my brother, David McKinnon, were good friends for many years. I spent the Labour Day weekend in NB with my parents, and we were just talking about Brenda with them.
I have known Brenda since we were classmates at Quispamsis Elementary School (over 50 yrs ago!). I admired her athletic abilities and recall going on school Track & Field competitions & events as a teammate. Brenda was kind, and her caring personality put those she met at ease.
I lost touch with Brenda after high school graduation at KVHS, as I joined the Cdn Forces and moved out of the province. I would hear news about Brenda via Richard (through David) over the years. When I saw the current photo of her, I noticed that she still had the same warm smile that I remember from all those years ago. Brenda will be missed.
Sincere condolences from Lower Sackville, NS.

Joyce, Cathy, Bruce and Richard,
I send you all my love and condolences.
Brenda and I would take time when we met in the community and catch up. Her and I may have grown up in different parts of the city, but some how our paths were always connected. We had our children at the same time and shared all the highs and challenges of raising them. Our time at Sunrise Shores are some of my most cherished memories, oh we had lots of fun and adventures. Her smile cannot be matched by anyone and her love for people, young and aged was admiring.
I wish I had one more chance to sit and chat, but I know heaven has gained another angel and she will watch over us all.
Love to you and your families during this time.

Dear Loughrey Family, I am so saddened to hear of Brenda's passing. She really was an angel on earth as she was always so kind and caring and concerned about other people's feelings. You always knew when Brenda was around as her smile could light up a room. From the time we met in 1990 I felt like I had gained a younger sister. So many memories of sharing times together with our 2 young children. Brenda had a way of making someone feel like the most important person in her life at that moment. Her smile lit up her entire face and her laugh was amazing. She will be missed by so many people.
