Obituary of Barbara Anne Marsh

Barbara Anne Marsh of Hampton, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully on February 21st, 2023, at Kingsway Care Centre in Quispamsis. Barbara was born in Dartmouth to Joseph and Agnes Smith. After graduating from St. Peter’s School, she went on to work as an administrative officer and secretary at several organizations, including Air Canada which allowed her to pursue her love of travel.

In May 1960, Barbara and Larry Marsh were married at St. Peter’s Church in Dartmouth. Larry and Barb were married for 62 years and had 4 children, David, Carolyn (Jeff Turner), Sandy (Peter Hamm), and Andrew who passed away soon after birth. Barb loved her grandchildren Ben (Kailey), Madison and Charlie Turner, and Ryan and Katie Hamm, sister-in-law Donna Smith. She will be missed by family members on both the Marsh and Smith sides.

Barbara started playing golf at an early age, inspired by her brothers at Brightwood Golf Club. She went on to represent New Brunswick 5 times on the senior women’s golf team.  She won several club championships, tournaments as well as the New Brunswick Super Senior in 2002. She had 5 holes in one!

Barbara loved music and was always humming. She once bought a second-hand organ and could surprisingly play it by ear! She was a kind person with a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humour. She was known for her funny poems and unique rendition of “Happy Birthday”. Barbara had a love for animals and animals loved her. She had many pets through the years and would often find animals waiting at her doorstep to say hello. Barb was an avid bridge player. She played at the Kennebecasis Valley and Hampton bridge clubs. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of the CWL.

Barbara was predeceased by brothers Carl (Frances), John (Edna) and Lorne Smith.

We would like to thank St. Joseph’s Hospital and Kingsway Care Home for the wonderful care they provided. Barb will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and we are so lucky she was in our lives.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119). A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Barb’s life will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 22 Church Street, Hampton, at 2PM. Donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick or charity of choice.
