Marija Satalic

Obituary of Marija Satalic

“Tuzna je Nedjelja” translates from Croatian to “It’s a sad Sunday”.

Our mother died on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born in Dubrovnik, Croatia (King’s Landing from the Game of Thrones) to Ana Vukovic and Bozo Simatovic. Our

father Zlatan Satalic died in 1984 and she survived 39 more years along with her four daughters; Diana Cosman (Bob) of Quispamsis, Erni Satalic-Roy (Peter LaRocque) of Quispamsis, Alida

Satalic (Claire Munroe) of Hampton, and Nancy Satalic (Tim Maber) of Quispamsis. Her two grandchildren, Monica Newman (Mark) of Saint John and Michael Roy of Halifax, will miss her.

She enjoyed seeing her great grandchildren Jack and Louie regularly.

“I’m fine, I’m still here” were her words no matter how she felt. “No idle hands” was her motto as she continued to make her own creations, whether it be quilting, sewing, needlepoint, or string

art. The many afghans she crocheted will be appreciated by their recipients, most of which were donated to Nursing Homes. Her work was all done while sitting at her “Mission Control” chair

from which she could see everybody who comes for a visit. In her younger days, she loved to garden and enjoyed the fruits of her labour. For a long time, she was our family’s computer geek

since she loved a challenge. She played several instruments and passed on her love for music. Most recently she was so happy to see that Croatia placed third in the World Cup. I could go on

and on, suffice to say there was never a “lazy” moment.

Besides her husband, Marija was predeceased by her son-in-law Daniel Roy.

We had a great life with you mom, one that expanded from Croatia to Egypt then Canada. Thank you for teaching us to be strong and independent. We will miss you very much, mom. Don’t

forget to say hello to dad.

In keeping with Marija’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road,

Quispamsis (506-849-2119). Interment will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Marija can be made to a

charity of the donor’s choice.
