Obituary of Joan Baldwin
January 01st, 2023, Joan Baldwin got her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was 94 years old. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan would like to share this news with those that have had the pleasure of knowing this incredible lady. Surrounded by her loving family and many devoted pets, she left us peacefully and soon will be reunited with her “Keithie Boy”, the love of her life.
Born on Dec 12, 1928, in Lancashire, England, Joan and her husband Keith and their family immigrated to Canada in 1957.
Joan greatest love in life was her family. She chose her devotion to family instead of a career. All her children were proud to call her their mum. Joan and Keith loved to travel and while the children were still growing would pile 7 of them (sometimes 9 if the grandparents were visiting) into a Pontiac station wagon and would set out on camping adventures. Many wonderful memories were made on these trips. The love of camping is still shared by all their children and grandchildren. Their family was also fortunate to take numerous trips to Bermuda and Bahamas. Joan and Keith’s love of travel continued after their children left the nest. They spent many vacations on trips all over the Caribbean Islands and then in 1992 they purchased a home in Barefoot Bay, Florida where they spent their winter months, cycling, golfing and being part of numerous clubs including the Canadian and British Clubs. They made numerous lasting friendships in Florida.
Joan is survived by her 4 children, Judi (Emery), Jeff (Barb), Libby (Don), and Andrea. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Maegan (Robbie), Erin (Nick), Julie (Ian), Myles (Samantha), Hayley (Peter), Stewart and Reid. 13 Great grandchildren, Carrington, Jameson, Addison, Harrison, Brody, Linkin, Malia, Naia, Kale, Levi, Red, Etta, Freya and number 14 on the way . Joan is also survived by her loving and devoted brother Allan Higson and his wife Jean and many other family members both in Canada and England.
Joan was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Keith Baldwin, and her son Stewart. She is also predeceased by her sister Margaret and her brother Jack, her son in laws Russ Webster and Don Morris.
We will miss the beautiful “Matriarch” of our family but will honor the strong foundation she has left us standing on that will hold us together in our time of mourning and in the celebration of her life. We will cherish and follow her favorite saying “whatever will be will be”. Final thoughts to her loved ones spoken eloquently in this poem:
I MADE IT HOME
I just wanted to let you know I
Made it home
Everything is so pretty here,
So fresh, so new. I wish that you
Could close your eyes so you
Could see it too.
Please try not to be sad for me
Try to understand. God is taking
Care of me… I’m in the shelter of
His hands.
Here there is no sadness, and no
Sorrow and no pain. Here there
Is no crying, and I’ll never hurt
Again.
Here it is so peaceful, when all
The angels sing. I really have to
Go now…I’ve just got to
Try my wings.
PS…I’ll be the first face you see
When you get here!
Special thank you to KV extramural for your help.
