Obituary of Spyros Antonio Kasidonis

It is with great sadness that the family of Spyros Antonio Kasidonis wishes to announce his passing on October 9th, 2022 at Embassy Hall in Quispamsis. Born in the beautiful village of Paleopolis, located on the island of Andros Greece, August 6th, 1935, Spyros was the youngest child of the late Irene (Pertesis) and Antónis Kasidonis.

After finishing school in Andros, Spyros continued his studies at University in Athens. He then went on to join the Royal Hellenic Navy and Hellenic Merchant Navy before coming to Canada to visit his brother in Saint John NB. Once meeting his wife Carole, he made the Saint John area his home.

Spyros was a quiet and thoughtful man and a respected member of the Greek Community with which he was involved throughout his life. His Greek Orthodox faith was very important to him. He was an entrepreneur at heart, and was always looking for a “good deal”. He had many businesses throughout the years, most notably Tobin’s Tobacco.

Spyros is survived by his daughter, Rena Kasidonis McCarthy (Karl) of Quispamsis NB, along with many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Nikolaos, Maria, Michalis, Giannis, Despina, and Violetta. He was also very recently predeceased by his wife of 59 years. There is great comfort knowing that they passed so closely.

Our family would like to thank the entire team of doctors, nurses and support staff at Embassy Hall for the care they provided Spyros over the past five months. In addition, we would like to thank the wonderful team at Bobby’s Hospice where Spyros spent six months in 2020.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home 152 Pettingill Rd, Quispamsis NB.  Public visitations will take place on Thursday, October 13th, from 2:00 to 4:00pm and from 6:00 to 8:00pm.  The Funeral Service will occur on Friday, October 14th at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home at 11:30am, officiated by Father Matthew Penney. Interment at Fernhill Cemetery will immediately follow the service. We encourage those attending to wear a mask so that we can keep our elderly family and friends safe.

In place of flowers, donations in Spyros’ memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice.
