Obituary of Lillian Ann Johnston

It is with heartfelt sorrow, the family of Lillian Ann Johnston, announce her passing on September 21, 2022, at Kings Way Care Centre.

Born on September 29, 1932, in Chatham, NB, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Margaret (Fraser) Gouchie.  Lil obtained her teaching certificate in Fredericton and taught at St. Michael’s in the Miramichi.  After her marriage to Joe she lived in Moncton, the Magdalen Islands, Halifax, and Saint John before settling in Quispamsis to start a family.  She was a past member of the Hampton Golf Club and volunteered at St. Marks Catholic Church in Quispamsis. She enjoyed a good game of Yahtzee when family came to visit, golf, crossword puzzles and bridge with “the girls”.  She had a few favorite local restaurants, and anyone on an outing with Lil always knew that it would include a stop for lunch.  Her grandson, Matthew, was her whole world.

Lillian is survived by her daughter Jill Edney (Larry) of Quispamsis, grandson Matthew (Nicole) Johnston, great grandchildren Max and Archer, brother John Gouchie (Romaine) of Halifax, NS, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Besides her parents, Lil is predeceased by her brother Jim Gouchie, and Marguerite Hay, who raised her after the passing of her parents.

Lil’s family cannot express enough how much they appreciate the care and love the staff at Kings Way Care Centre provided mom during her stay.  You were her home for 9 years and you became part of our family.  Your compassion during mom’s final days meant the world to us and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119) with visiting on Monday from 2-4 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mark’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 10AM.  For those unable to attend, a livestream of Lillian’s service may be viewed on the link on her obituary at www.kennebecasisfh.com.  Interment to take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at 1PM.   In lieu of flowers, remembrances in memory of Lillian can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
