I'd like to extend my sincere condolences to Peter's family. Although I only met Peter five years ago as a fellow skater at the Q-Plex, I've known of the Jolly family all of my life. My father, Percy Hamilton, worked with Peter's father, Harley Jolly, for over 35 years at the Great West Life Assurance Company. I'm the younger of Percy's two daughters and grew up knowing of the high regard my father held for Mr. Jolly. So, after Peter and I met, the discovery of who are fathers were, was a catalyst for much conversation and reminiscing. Through these conversations I was able to glimpse the truly remarkable life that Peter had led both professionally and personally. I had planned to attend the service for Peter today but the arrival of guests from Ottawa has kept me at home. If anyone in Peter's family would like to connect with me, my email address is nancy.lewin1@gmail.com.

Our condolences to Jennifer and Cynthia, Braden and Jane and other family members and friends. Peter and I met in the seventies as members of the ski-around group in Montreal, which consisted of a very diversified group of , relatively speaking, young professionals. Because I hailed from the Netherlands, Peter assumed that I was an experienced sailor (which I was not) and invited me frequently to accompany him in the weekday sailing races of his yacht club. In those races we always did very well at the start, but never finished on top because of my lack of experience and mostly because Peter always started to tell a very interesting story and would then end up in the most intriguing discussions with his crew members. I believe that we never won a race, but we definitely gained many friendships. After I moved from Montreal to Toronto in the early eighties and got married, we remained friends and were joined in this friendship by my wife, Marianne. We were lucky that Peter would, from time to time, be able to swing by our home, in his car with a canoe on top. He would most of the time announce his visit a few hours in advance. We often used these visits to go out for pick-nicks, canoe trips or cross-country skiing and none of those outings were boring.
Marianne and I were very fond of Peter and will remember him forever.

I am so sorry for your loss and my condolences to Peter’s family and friends. Peter was always a good friend to my stepfather over the many decades of their friendship, and he showed nothing but kindness and generosity to me and my family as well. Never one to be lacking a story, Peter was a wonderful conversationalist that made everyone around him feel at ease. His contribution to any dinner table or party. conversation will be missed.

Hello to all of Peter’s family and loved ones,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Board of Directors of The St. John River Society, where Peter was a Board member for many years, to express our deepest condolences to you on Peter’s passing.
Peter was introduced to our organization through our past-President, Muriel Mackenzie. She and her husband Dr. Darryl Mackenzie used to sail with Peter. They had matching J boats.
Peter was such a gift to our organization. He drew on a lifetime of experience, providing solutions to communities for improvement and his knowledge and wisdom helped to guide many projects over the years. He always came prepared to meetings and was always quick with a witty comment and his dry humour. Through his connection to RKYC, we were able to capitalize on holding events and talking to members about the importance and value of the river and what we could all do to help contribute to the river’s health. We feel very lucky that Peter chose to share his valuable time with us and our organization and the river communities we work with are better for it.
Sincerely, Molly Demma, Executive Director, The St. John River Society

I extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of Peter Jolie on behalf of members of the RKYC sailing community. Peter a very well known and respected sailor at the Club who left us all in awe as he sailed his opened decked Rhodes 18, sloop up and down the Saint John river, participating in our Club’s yearly cruises. We will miss his hydrological knowledge taken from our many discussions with Peter in the spar shed as we tried to estimate the height and timing of the impending freshet each year. Journey well Peter fair winds and a following sea.

I am so sorry to hear about Peter's passing. I really enjoyed my time with Peter. I knew him from the RKYC, and we spent many hours listening to his stories. He was a great friend of my late husband, Bob Barnes. He was also in the reserves with my late father, Hal Killam.
Peter joined 24 of us on cruise from Copenhagen to Florida one year. So many fun times.
He was such an intelligent, warm, kind, and adventurous person. He was an inspiration to me. I will miss him. Condolences to you, your family and MaryAnn.

So sorry to hear this news. I first met Peter while we were both on the alumni counsil at UNB. We seemed to hit it off immediately. From changing a flat tire in the alumni parking lot in mid January to long sailing discussions. He invited me for an evening cruse on his boat during one of the Saint John meetings. I happened to chair the Proudly UNB awards committee that selected him for one of the prestigous awards of recognition. I loved his stories of working internationally and across Canada.
Sad to see him go.
Sincere condolences to his family.

We got to know Peter a lot better in his "retirement". What a joke that was. He was consistently engaged in at least two projects at any given time. We say "engaged in" because engagement didn't always lead to completion. He had too many ideas, too many projects, to complete everything. It was only when he was off in the wilderness of northern New Brunswick or northern Ontario or ... that he allowed himself to focus on what a lot of us humble non-explorers would call survival.
His hydrological and engineering skills that helped people in 19 other countries are described in his obituary - but those skills also extended to his immediate neighbourhood. He rented a digger and singlehandedly trenched around Jolly Cottage (the cottage he and his father built that we lived in for three years, and where our daughter Megan was born, that Grat's brother and sister-in-law lived in, that Grat's parents lived in for many years and that our daughter Pippa now lives in with her partner Cliff), solving some longstanding wetness issues.
And Peter and John Simson, and other neighbours he successfully cajoled, successfully drained really wet parts of the Dam Trail. That wasn't enough though. He and John built cantilevered bridges and staircases to open and connect and extend the Dam Trail in ways never occurring to us less useful trail users. Plaques proudly acknowledge his efforts now.
Wennbergs and Blagraves and Turners will miss his incredible local knowledgeh and his many wonderful, and always interesting, stories.

Jolly Family and Mary Ann, please accept my sincerest condolences in the recent loss of Peter..
I both met and got to know Peter through RUSI-NB . He was an impressive figure, and he made many contributions to the various organizations where he served . He always seemed ‘jolly’ so was a fine reflection of his family name.
Peter modelled the way for others facing huge challenges as he was courageous, positive in his approach and carried on to the best of his ability always.
I know his physical presence among us will be greatly missed, yet he has left us may a legacy and fine memories.
We will remember him.
