Obituary of Janie A Somerville

It is with great respect and appreciation for a life filled with love, laughter, family, and friends that the family of Janie A. Somerville announce her passing on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Shannex Embassy Hall. Born on January 11, 1940, in Nova Scotia, Janie was the beloved wife of the late J. David Somerville and daughter of the late Charles and Marion (Petroff) Boyles.

Janie was a proud wife, mother, friend, and a successful real estate agent for more than 25 years in Saint John. She was known and loved by many for her integrity, loyalty, motivation, style, quick wit, upbeat personality, and keen sense of fun. A woman ahead of her time, there wasn’t anything Janie couldn’t accomplish, once she set her mind to it—she was the original fun, fearless, female.

Married for 54 years, she shared her life with J. David, and during which time they enjoyed a life filled with children, grandchildren, friends, and many shared activities, including bowling, dancing, long country drives ending with nice dinners, and travelling. Following retirement, they spent time at their home overlooking the river and winters with friends in Indian Shores, Florida. Janie enjoyed many personal pursuits such as cooking, decorating, and shopping for the best deals. She was an accomplished professional, seamstress, and cook, whose talents and creativity saw her also excel at interior design, fashion and concocting fun-filled activities for family, friends, and co-workers. Janie not only was a strong role model for women pursuing successful careers, but especially for her children, teaching them numerous values and life skills. They fondly each recalled those Janie placed on honesty, knowing there are no limits to what you can achieve, and to be sure to always wear nice shoes.

Janie will be greatly missed and is survived by her son, Glenn (Kerrie) Somerville of AB; daughters, Kimberly (Grant) Gillespie of ON, Sheri Somerville of NB; sisters, Barbara (Ted) Jenne of Utah and Colleen Boyles of NS; grandchildren Brett Gillespie and Matthew Somerville; several nieces and nephews, as well as her adored fur baby Abby the cat. She was predeceased by her parents, husband J. David and brother, Donald Boyles.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis (849-2119). In keeping with Janie’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held in the Spring where Janie will be reunited with her beloved husband, J. David, in St. Andrews Kirk Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Janie may be given to: KV Food Bank, Romero House, or the St. Andrews Kirk Church. Online condolences may be placed at: www.KennebecasisFH.com
