Obituary of Irene Gates

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Margaret Irene Gates, wife of the late Lincoln Gates, announces her passing which occurred on Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Irene was born on July 21, 1921, in Saint John, NB, and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mabel (Wright) Davidson.

In her 100 years, Irene took great pride in raising her children and seeing her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren grow.  Irene enjoyed driving to Florida with Lincoln and across the country to visit family. She was member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church.

Irene is survived by her son, David Gates; daughters Peggy Ann Huggard and Jane Hunt; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers Dave and Art, and one sister, Dot.

Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis, NB, 849-2119, with visiting from 12:00-1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 30, 2022; with a funeral service to follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 PM. Interment to take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens on Thursday, March 31, at 11AM. Donations made in memory of Irene, may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
