Obituary of Gary Patrick Abbott
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gary Patrick Abbott, beloved husband of Lorraine (Donaldson), announces his passing which occurred on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Gary was born in Saint John and was the son of the late, Arthur and Elsie (King) Abbott.
Gary will be remembered as being a kind and friendly man, who would do anything for anyone he met. Whether it was a friend, family member or stranger in need, Gary was the first to offer help. He had a natural talent for making friends and making people feel welcomed and comfortable in his presence. He spent many years working for the Lantic Sugar Refinery, where he met Lorraine and then he went on to work for Ganong Brother’s Ltd. in St. Stephen, where he retired from. He had a love of animals and would make sure to bring home discarded nuts from the chocolate factory to feed his furry friends. Gary loved more than anything to spend time with his children and grandchildren whom he adored. He would take them fishing, or spend time teaching them how to fix things around the house, he loved to share his knowledge and passions with his loved ones. He had an eye for decorating and could turn any room into a place of comfort. He and Lorraine have many fond memories of cruises they took together, where they made many friends from all over the world. He was someone who wanted everyone around him to have fun and this was shown through his time working as the Head of Recreation at the sugar refinery where he would plan the Christmas and parities for the children of workers. He loved to see people happy and having a good time. Gary also had a deep Catholic faith and we find comfort knowing he is reunited with his loved ones in heaven and that he will save a special fishing hole for Rick.
He will be remembered by his wife Lorraine; children: Shawn and Steven Abbott, Stefanie Haggerty; step-children: Gary Stevens, Jack Stevens Cathy Gallagher and Stacey Morrell; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother Richard (Moe) Abbott; sisters: Pam (Doug) MacLean, Rose (Tom) Ridgley, Darlene (Brian) Hersey, Diane Sentner; as well as several special nieces, nephews, friends and his two fur babies, his cats LG I and II. Gary was predeceased by his parents and grand-daughter Alaura.
Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis, NB, (849-2119). In keeping with Gary’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service.
