Colletta was my godmother - for the last 71 years! She was my mom's first cousin on the Doherty side, born a year after my mother Marg Hayes, two years before my aunt Theresa Hayes -she born a year before Theresa Colllings Stevens (they used to kid about Theresa #1 and #2). From the photos I have taken of "bathing beauties at the shore" (Shediac-Cocagne coast) in the 1940s, the Collings girls, the Hayes girls and their other cousins the Donahue girls liked to hang out together. My mom and dad, and Colletta and Bill (my godfather), got married around the same time and all lived in Saint John, so were good friends for many years. Growing up, i have fond memories of visiting the Woodruffs in Golden Grove - the house with a flat roof! Colletta and Mom had the Irish gift of the gab - which I always figured was part of the Doherty heritage! But they had different body clocks. Colletta was a night owl, Mom wasn't! So Colletta would sometimes call up Mom late in the evening wanting to chat - but my sleepy Mom would get a little flustered! "Couldn't she call a bit earlier?" she'd mutter. When Suzie and I married and started having our 7 girls, Colletta kept in touch; I remember one Christmas her sending a big box of crayons for our little girls. When we moved out of province for 11 years, we exchanged Christmas cards. Colletta always wanted to know my "news", and if I could send a family photo even better! After we came back to NB I visited her a number of times at Joan and Kevin's. She was always happy to see me, and never failed to offer a "cuppa tea" and little sweet. She'd go through her family photos decked out on her shelves and expect me to come with one or two of my own! She happily introduced me to her grandchildren, and chatted about this, that and everything. With Covid I sadly hadn't seen her since the day of Theresa's funeral in 2019, when she, Maria, Joan and I had a nice visit together at Shannex. She was a dear soul, may she rest in peace and happiness. I picture Bill greeting her up above with that twinkle in the eye he use to have, saying "What took you so long?" Thank you, Lord, for her good long life, and for being my godmom.

So very sorry for your loss Terry and family. Woody was one of the sweetest women that I ever had the pleasure to meet while working at the Saint John Regional Library. Her humour and positive attitude were definitely an inspiration.
