Obituary of Vera Gertrude MacDougall
With heavy hearts, the family of Vera Gertrude MacDougall (Myers) announce her unexpected passing on August 2, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Cole Harbour, Guysborough County, NS, she was the daughter of, Stanley and Ada (Smith) Myers.
In the midst of our heavy hearts, we feel deep gratitude and joy for the love, acceptance and kindness that our mom was known for. Mom had a faith in Jesus that she knew was a gift of grace- this is what gave her hope and a future. We are thankful that mom is no longer in physical pain, and that she spent her final days content, peaceful and happy.
For many years, mom was an active member of Rothesay Baptist Church/ True Life Church. She was involved, and loved her ladies at her Tuesday morning bible study. In recent years when she became home bound, she found joy in being part of the online community of Kings Church. Our mom also started Friday morning breakfast group that met at the Route 1 Irving, which continued until Covid. Mom loved words and was quick to point out misspelled or grammatical errors. She loved to play Scrabble. She loved people and acceptance was an attitude she lived by.
She is survived by her son, Craig (Brandy) MacDougall; daughters, Janice (Jamie) Reynolds, Karen (Jamie) Boyd; brother, Fred Myers; sister, Helen (Vern) Myers-Hannah; grandchildren: Jeffrey (Melanie) Reynolds, Julie (Adam) Brewer, Jaclyn Reynolds, Taylor MacDougall, Olivia (Jaime) Regan, Jessica Patten, Kyle Boyd, Cody Boyd, Caleb Boyd, Janie Lynn Boyd, Corey (Nikki) Pierce; great-grandchildren: Austin Reynolds, Xavier Reynolds, Asher Reynolds, Lincoln Brewer, Sawyer Brewer, Kane Reynolds and Mason Bonney and brand new great grand daughter, Evie Lin Regan; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was predeceased by her parents; husband, Charles S. MacDougall, and her son, Ronald MacDougall, who tragically passed away at the age of 24.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to one of our mom’s caregivers, Susan Raid who has been an angel to our mom. We would also like to thank the 8th floor staff of St. Joseph’s hospital for their incredible care and kindness.
