Obituary of Stewart M. Leonard
Surrounded by his loving family, Stewart Leonard died peacefully at home in Quispamsis, Thursday, November 29, 2012. Born in Sandwick, Orkney, Scotland April 18, 1944, he was the son of the late Alexander “Sandy” and Jemima (Millar) Leonard. Prior to his retirement, Stewart was employed at Moosehead Breweries and more recently at the CO-OP Gas Bar. A long-time Merchant Marine Officer, he retired from Seaforth Fed Nav Hfx, in 1986, to be at home with his Children. Stewart was truly a social person who always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Stewart enjoyed travelling; to name just a few: he ventured on a Caribbean Cruise and visited family and friends in Scotland. He loved animals and always enjoyed the company of his dear canine companion, Rex. Stewart is survived by his sons, Stewart James, and Andrew Scott of Moncton, Ryan Alexander of Saint John and their Mom, Roberta Leonard of Moncton; best friend, Dorothy Gordon of Quispamsis; sisters, Valerie Vinnicombe and Frances Mowatt; brothers, Ronald (Susan) and Keith (Meg) all of Scotland and Melvin (Linda) of Ontario; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Ivan and James; as well as his dear Grannie, Lizzie Firth. As per the family’s request, no visitation will be held. However, relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 4 Church Avenue, Rothesay, on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at 2:00 PM. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at the church hall. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506) 849-2119. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Extra Mural Program Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online donations and condolences may be made at: www.kennebecasisfh.com
