Irma Gallant

Obituary of Irma Corrine Gallant

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our Mother, beloved wife of the late Tilmon Gallant, which occurred on Friday, January 27th, 2012, at Loch Lomond Villa. Born in St. Louis, NB, she was the daughter of the late Amede and Bertha (Gallant) Maillet. Irma is survived by her four children, Lucille MacKinnon, Reg Gallant, Nancy Watts (Robert) and Claude Gallant. She was predeceased by a fifth child, Alvin in 1964. Irma was a loving grandmother to Katie, Kelly, Alec, Grant, Jillan, Julie and Deanne; as well as a sister to Evangeline and Fernande. She was predeceased by sisters, Andrea, Juliette and Laura, brother, Ulric and son-in-law, Norbert MacKinnon. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Irma was a supportive and devoted companion to her husband; as well as a loving and dedicated mother to her children. She always encouraged her children and showed great enthusiasm for anything and everything they wanted to achieve in life. For several years, Irma also worked outside the home as a ward attendant at the former Saint John General Hospital and later as a home support care worker at various nursing homes. She then went on to provide private senior homecare. Irma first came to Saint John from St. Louis in the early 1950s to find work. It was during that time she met her husband Tilmon. They married and together raised their family. Upon his retirement, she and Tilmon returned to Richibucto, where they spent 17 happy and active years in the community. Irma loved music, gardening and the company of good friends. She will be best remembered for the sweetness of her personality, her patience and her generosity to others. Her children in particular will miss the special love and attention she showed to each one of them. As her health deteriorated, Irma became a long term resident of Loch Lomond Villa, but her love for people and concern for others never diminished. She was a devout Roman Catholic and believed strongly in the power of Prayer, in particular those she recited to St. Anthony. At the family’s request, no visitation will be held. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4th, 2012, at 12 noon, from the chapel of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506) 849-2119. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at the funeral home. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Online donations and condolences may be made at: www.kennebecasisfh.com
