Obituary of Hugh Francis Saunders
It is with great sadness that the family of Hugh Saunders of Quispamsis, husband of Trish (Dugan) Saunders, announce his unexpected death which occurred on Tuesday, November 1st, 2011, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on April 29th, 1952, he was the son of the late Stanford and Frances (Burger) Saunders. Prior to his retirement, Hugh was employed as a school bus driver for District 6. He loved nature and all its beauty. Hugh was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed a good hockey game. He will fondly be remembered as “the number one Maple Leafs fan.” Most of all, Hugh loved and took great pride in his family. His grandsons were the light of his life and he treasured every moment together with them. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Besides his loving wife, Trish, Hugh is also survived by his daughter, Melissa Hanley (Christian) of Calgary; sisters, Stanita Hovey (Jack), Shirley Jones (Doug) and Nancy Thorpe, all of Quispamsis, precious grandsons, Ben and Luke Saunders and Drew Hanley; daughter-in-law, Gwen Manderville of Halifax; several sisters and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews. As well as his parents, Hugh was also predeceased by his son, Lt (N) Christopher Saunders and brother-in-law, Jackie Thorpe. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held from the chapel of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, on Friday, November 4th, 2011, at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Luke’s Anglican Cemetery (Gondola Point), Quispamsis. Immediately following the interment, a reception will be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Atlantic Chapter or to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
