Obituary of Margaret Kathleen Dobbin

The death of Kaye Dobbin of Quispamsis, wife of the late John H. Dobbin, occurred Friday, October 21st, 2011, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, on July 24th, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Rolina (McKay) McLeod. Prior to her retirement, Kaye was employed as a medical secretary. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing and loved playing basketball. As captain of the Saint John Vocational School Girl’s Basketball Team, Kaye led her teammates to the city and district championship. Later in life, she went on to organize her class 50th reunion celebration. During her time spent at Gondola Point, Kaye became very active in the community and welcomed numerous friends and neighbours to the area with her famous baked goods. She went on to become instrumental in the development of the Gondola Point Recreation Association. Kaye enjoyed knitting and Swedish weaving, loved playing cards and had a keen mind for crossword puzzles. She was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church (Gondola Point) and enjoyed participating with the Quispamsis Seniors program. The Dobbin family would like to extend a warm hearted thank you to the doctors and nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit, 5AS and the Dialysis Unit at the SJRH for providing Kaye with such excellent care. Also, a special thank you to Kaye’s homecare workers....the support and concern shown towards her and our family will never be forgotten. Kaye is survived by one daughter, Margaret A. “Peggy” Dobbin of Oromocto; three sons, John (Donna) and Paul (Patsy) both of Gondola Point and Kevin (Tracey) of Toronto; one sister, Winnie Darrah of Saint John; eleven much loved grandchildren; four precious great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Kaye was also predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Broderick and Joan Wilson; as well as one brother, Lawrence McLeod. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church (Gondola Point), Quispamsis Road, Quispamsis, on Tuesday, October 25th, 2011, at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery. Immediately following the interment a reception will be held at the church hall.
