Obituary of Ronald Burns Farwell

Ron Farwell was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on August 4th, 1941, son of the late Dorothy Margaret Farwell (nee Smith) and Archibald William Farwell who was a manager of the Bank of Nova Scotia. During Ron’s youth he lived in a number of communities throughout the Maritimes. During his high school years in Petitcodiac he met and later married his wife Jean (nee Howatt). Together they had two children, a daughter Heather and a son Mark. Ron followed in his father’s footsteps and entered the Bank of Nova Scotia living and working in Havelock, Moncton, Sackville, Summerside, Charlottetown, Bath, Florenceville and Saint John. He retired in 1998 after 38 years of service. Ron was an avid golfer and a member of the Hampton Golf Club. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Ron took great pride in his family and loved the times they all spent together. Ron was diagnosed with Melanoma five years ago. He fought hard but finally succumbed to the disease on Monday, May 9th, 2011, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jean (nee Howatt); daughter, Heather Dickinson (Stephen); son, Mark (Carolin Calder); brother, David of Vancouver and four beautiful grandchildren, Melissa, Bradley, Rebecca and Rachel. He has a large extended family of sisters and brothers-in-law; as well as, many nieces and nephews. A very special thanks to Dr. Gordon Hollway, the Extra Mural Team and SJRH Palliative Care Unit. We could not have asked for more or better care. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 12th, 2011, at 1:00 PM, from the chapel of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home. A reception will be held at the funeral home immediately following the service. Interment will take place in Maplewood Cemetery, Petitcodiac, at a later date.
