Obituary of Verda Pauline Demmings

The death of Verda Demmings of the Kings Way Care Centre, Quispamsis, formerly of Saint John, wife of the late R. Vernon Demmings, occurred Thursday, December 9th, 2010, at her residence. Born in Minto, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Thompson) Higgins. Verda enjoyed taking walks and was an avid reader. In her younger years, she had many fond memories of her time spent boating with family and friends. Verda was a faithful member of Edith Avenue United Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile and Order of the Eastern Star. Verda is survived by her children, Judith Anne Chittick (Tom) of Michigan and Marylyn Miller of Windsor; step-daughter, Ruth Fulton McAllister (Murray) of Portage a Prairie, Manitoba and seasonally of Gaspereau Forks, New Brunswick; daughter-in-law, Joan Demmings of Vancouver Island; brother, Ivan Higgins of British Columbia; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, eleven step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Verda was predeceased by her son, F.V. Wayne Demmings; brothers, Paul, Alton and Vaughan Higgins; one sister in infancy, Tootsie and one brother in infancy, Elmer; as well as, grandchildren, Karyn, Leah and Royce. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held at Edith Avenue United Baptist Church, 20-24 Edith Avenue (off Bayside Drive), Saint John East, on Monday, December 13th, 2010, at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the funeral, in the church hall. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens, Saint John.
