Obituary of Hilaire Joseph Robichaud

On Thursday, November 18, 2010, surrounded by family, Hilaire Joseph Robichaud passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a period of failing health. Born in Point Sapin, NB on March 14, 1946, he was the son of the late Onésime and Gertrude (Mazerolle) Robichaud. Hilaire is survived by his wife, Simonne (Blanchard) Robichaud and their daughter, Monique Robichaud-O’Brien (Jeffrey) and son, Daniel (Michelle) both of Quispamsis. He is also survived by sisters, Vanilda Babineau (the late Raymond) of Saint Louis de Kent and Fern Carpenter (Miles) of Fredericton; brothers, Lionel (the late Della) of Point Sapin, Jean-Baptiste (Bernise) of Point Sapin and Norbert (Anne) of Low, Quebec. Papa also left behind loving grandchildren, Zachary and Tyler O’Brien and Madelyn and Sophie Robichaud; as well as, many nieces and nephews. Hilaire was predeceased by his brothers Elmo, Arthur, Everette, Eloie, and Onésime. Hilaire was a master craftsman who worked with his hands, as a mason, in Saint John for most of his life. When he retired from hard labour, he took on a labour of love for gardening. Hilaire’s passion was tending to his orange tree, his flowers and building an elaborate garden for his grandchildren to enjoy. All the while working very hard to keep out the deer. He wasn’t one who wanted much attention, but his attention to detail was unmatched. These details ranged from the new flavours of ice cream he created to making rocking horses, puzzles and fishponds. He was devoted to his family with a quiet love and he will be greatly missed by all. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119), with visiting hours on Sunday, November 21st from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Vigil prayers will be held Sunday at 8:00 PM. Hilaire will be celebrated with Mass on Monday, November 22nd at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 171 Pettingill Road at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Following the interment, a reception will be held at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home at 12:30 PM.
