Obituary of Frederick J. Van Beelen

The death of Fred Van Beelen of Quispamsis, NB, husband of Lana (Giberson) Van Beelen occurred Friday, July 9th, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Cornelis (Cees) and Hazel (Marney) Van Beelen. Fred enjoyed his time spent with family and friends motorcycling and puttering around in the garage and at the camp. He was an avid Nascar fan, a “jack of all trades”, and an “unsung inventor” by those who knew him. Fred was employed for 43 years at Atlantic Towing, first as a marine engine fitter on the tugs and later as warehouse supervisor at Indiantown. Fred was very well respected by friends, family, and co-workers because of his truly kind and helpful manner. He adored his family, especially his precious grandson who will always remember his grandfather puttering in the garage, fixing his toys, and teaching him life lessons. Fred will be dearly missed by his family and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Besides his loving wife, Lana, Fred is also survived by two adoring daughters, Rachel Van Beelen of Saint John and Jana Van Beelen (Derek Whiteway) of Fall River, Nova Scotia; two step-sons, Jason Perry of London, Ontario and Phillip Perry (Katherine Novaczek) of Saint John; grandson, Jordan Frederick Van Beelen; two aunts, Mildred Marney and Ann Marney, both of Saint John; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Cornelis “Kon” and Wayne Van Beelen. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119 with visitation Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A memorial service will be held from St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, 239 Quispamsis Road, Quispamsis, NB, at 1:00 PM on Monday. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens, Saint John. A reception will take place immediately following the burial, at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Association.
