Obituary of Roy Colby Carleton
After a long battle with cancer, Roy Carleton of Clover Valley, NB, husband of Judy (Clements) Carleton, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, at the age of 68. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late C. Colby and E. Prudence (Cougle) Carleton. Roy was employed as a Plumber/Pipefitter with Local 213, for over 40 years and was also a part-time Plumbing Instructor at NBCC, Saint John campus. Roy was a Sergeant in the Canadian Forces serving with the 1st Battalion RNBR Carleton and York, 2nd Battalion RNBR North Shore, the Royal Canadian Signals 722 SQ, 5th Int. Signals SQ and was a member of the Royal Canadian Signals Association of Canada. Roy was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69 and St. George’s Anglican Church in West Saint John, where he served as a Lay Reader. He was a long time member of St. John Lodge #27 Bathurst, Past Master Union Lodge of Portland #10 F & AM, Carleton Chapter #1 RAM, Past FGP Grand Chapter of NB, Past Provincial Grand Prior of NB, Knight Templers Saint John, Demolay Preceptory #3A, St. John Council #1, Select Masters, Past Grand Inspector General and a member of the York Crest of Honour. Roy loved the outdoors and was especially fond of fishing and hunting. He enjoyed time spent with children as a Scout Master and Hockey Coach. In addition to his loving wife, Judy, Roy is also survived by his two sons, Steven (Nicola) of Sydenham, ON and Philip (Betty-Jo) of Owen Sound, ON; two step-daughters, Tracy Kinney of Saint John and Stacy Kinney (Dave) of Edmonton, AB; one step-son, Scott Kinney (Holly) of Edmonton, AB; one sister, Margo Cornfield (Doug) and niece Kim of Saint John; his granddaughter, Tiegan and his grandson, Cole; two step-granddaughters, Rachel and Emilly; five step-grandsons, Kyle, Mason, Brandon, Konnor and Wade; in-laws, Don Clements (Anne), Dan Clements (Sharon), Rob Clements (Janice), Rick Clements (Annette), Dale McCarthy (Ron) and Roxanne Burchill (Dan); special niece Danielle Burchill and several nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as loyal canine companion, Shelby. Besides his parents, Roy was also predeceased by in-laws, Gordie and Betty Clements and Tammy Dort. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119 with visitation Friday from 6-9 PM. A funeral service will be held from St. George’s Anglican Church, 100 Watson St., West Saint John, on Saturday, June 26th, 2010, at 11 AM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens, Saint John. Immediately following the interment, a reception will be held at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home.
