Obituary of Garnett Cyril Gunn

After a brief battle with cancer, the death of Garnett Gunn of Rothesay, NB, husband of Evelyn “Evie” (Buchanan) Gunn occurred Thursday, May 27th, 2010, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Howard and Florence (Peacock) Gunn. Garnett served in the Korean War and was very honoured when he received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal in 1992 for his brave contributions to the war effort. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #58 and the Buffalo Club of Saint John. Prior to his retirement, Garnett was employed as a taxi driver for over fifty years and was most recently an employee of Royal Taxi. Throughout his years driving taxi, Garnett’s most loyal passenger was his special companion, Cuddles the dog. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching a good wrestling match and drinking tea on the patio. Besides his loving wife, Evie, Garnett is also survived by two sons, Paul Huckins (Carolyn) and David Huckins (Joanne) both of Saint John; step-daughter, Sandy Forster (Dennis) of Rothesay; two brothers, Leonard (Betty) and Earle (Rose) both of Saint John; grandchildren, Shelley and Candy Huckins and Tricia Paul (Mark); step-grandchildren, Amanda and Jamie Forster; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and his dog, Cuddles. Garnett was predeceased by one sister, Jenny and four brothers, Les, Raymond, Albert and Gordon. Arrangements are entrusted Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119, with visitation from 1:30-2:30 PM on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010, with members of the Royal Canadian Legion holding A Tribute to a Veteran service at 1:30 PM. Following visitation a memorial service will take place in the chapel of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, at 2:30 PM. A reception will follow the service, at the funeral home.
