Obituary of Eugene Charles Daye

The death of Gene Daye of Quispamsis, NB, husband of Faye (Boyd) Daye, occurred Thursday, January 14th, 2010, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Chipman, NB, he was the son of the late Charles and Lola (Bishop) Daye. Gene was a veteran of World War II, serving with Unit 1313 Field Regiment. He was a life member of the Quispamsis Island View Lions Club and was an active member of the Quispamsis Seniors. Gene and Faye were instrumental in introducing clogging to New Brunswick, where they taught it for many years. Besides, clogging, Gene enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing the fiddle. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his wife, Faye, Gene is also survived by two daughters, Linda Denton (Charlie) of Quispamsis and Joann Tyrie (Scott) of Petawawa, Ontario; two sons, David Daye (Debbie Doucette) of Saint John and Stephen Daye of Hampton; daughter-in-law, Linda Daye of Rothesay; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter in infancy, Sandra; his son, Neil; one sister, Joyce Collins and one brother, Harold Daye. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Members of the Quispamsis Island View Lions Club will hold a tribute service on Sunday at 2:15 PM. Also, members of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold A Tribute to a Veteran service at 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held from Kennebecasis Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, January 18th, 2010, at 2:00 PM. A reception will be held immediately following the service, at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Chipman United Baptist Cemetery, at a later date. For those who wish, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
