Obituary of Gerald Francis Murphy

The death of Gerald Francis Murphy, husband of the late Grace (Kendell) Murphy, occurred Thursday, October 15th, 2009, at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. Born in Sheet Harbour, NS, on May 8th, 1915, he was the son of the late Edward and Sarah (Richards) Murphy. Gerald was a veteran of the Battle of Britain. He also served in the North African and Italian campaigns, surviving serious injuries at Coriano. Prior to his retirement in 1980, Gerald was employed at Camphill Veteran’s Hospital in Halifax. He is survived by daughter, Gail Leadlay (David); sister, Ann Surette; grandsons, Stephen (Kathy) and Eric; as well as, great-grandsons, Kodi and Preston. Besides his parents and wife, Grace, Gerald was also predeceased by sister, Margaret; brothers, James, Charles, Cyril and Basil and great-grandson, Dominic. A memorial service will be held at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing, 422 Bay Street, South Bay, Saint John, on Friday, October 30th, 2009, at 2: 00 PM.
