Obituary of G. Douglas Mollins

The blended Mollins-Smith family regrets to announce the passing of G. Douglas (Doug) Mollins of Quispamsis, which occurred unexpectedly on Monday, August 31, 2009 at his residence. Born at Saint John on November 15, 1938, he was a son of the late Hartley and Bertha (Wilkie) Mollins. Doug’s earliest and fondest childhood memories were those of the time spent in Prince Edward Island with family and friends. As a career, Doug chose to follow in his father’s footsteps with the Canadian Pacific Railway Police. He worked for several years in Montreal, and then returned to Saint John in 1979 as an Inspector, retiring in 1995. Doug was a member of Main Street Baptist Church. Doug is survived by his partner, Jean H. V. Smith; his children, Stephen Mollins of Toronto, Richard (Rick) Mollins (Shelley) of Mississauga, ON, Gary Mollins of Montreal; step-children, Mark Smith (Sarah) and Marlo Smith-Lawrence (Billy) of Halifax, and Michelle Smith-Sbrizzi (Andrew) of Saint John; grandchildren Tyler, Kansas, Caroline, Myah, Norah, and Jackson and Zoe; a sister, Hazel McNamara of Saint John; brothers Eric Mollins (Margaret) of Saint John and David Mollins (Joan) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, Shawn and Shane Mollins, who were very close to Doug. Resting at Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:30 PM from the Kennebecasis Funeral Home Chapel. Following a reception at the funeral home, Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
