Obituary of Hazel Alberta Kerr

The death of Hazel Kerr, of Kingston, NB, wife of the late Elmer Kerr, occurred on Thursday, January 22nd, 2009, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Williamsburg, NB, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Florence (Keenan) Ward. Hazel was a loyal employee of the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, where she served the public as a cafeteria cashier and later worked in the retail industry at Creaghan’s Department Store, which was also located in Fredericton. Hazel’s next endeavor was selling Avon in the Lincoln Trailer Park, and later moved on to be a sales agent for Nelson Monuments. In her early years, Hazel was a faithful member of the Anglican Church; however, throughout her married life, Hazel and her family attended Sunday School and regular church services at the United Church of Canada. She enjoyed her time spent assisting with the Canadian Girls in Training; as well as, Young Peoples. For many years, Hazel was a loyal member of the Orange Lodge. Hazel is survived by one daughter, Shirley Short of Kingston; two brothers, Robert Ward (Dorothea) of Williamsburg, NB and Murray Ward (Dorothy) of Lincoln, NB; five grandchildren, Cyndi and Wendy Peterson, Laurie Hersey-Peterson, Desiree Short and Serena Short McIllwraith; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Hazel was also predeceased by one daughter, Brenda Peterson, one granddaughter, Gloria Hogan and one brother, Albert Ward. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 28th, 2009, at 3:00 PM, in the chapel at Kennebecasis Funeral Home. Interment will take place at a later date.
