Obituary of Delilah B. Richards

Richards, Delilah B. “Lila”, in her 97th year passed away peacefully, surrounded by her three daughters, on Monday, October 6th, 2008, at the Kings Way Care Centre, Quispamsis, NB. Born in Murray River, PEI, she was the daughter of the late John and Myrtle (Campbell) Hooper. Lila was an active member of Portland United Church, after moving to Saint John in 1950, until she moved to Quispamsis where she transferred her membership to Quispamsis United. She enjoyed many years of fellowship within the UCW, first with the Ada Myles group at Portland United, then as a member of the Agnes Allingham Group in Quispamsis. She loved life and had many interests: knitting, quilting, gardening, baking, bowling and playing cards, her greatest passion being Bridge. She belonged to three Bridge groups, playing at least three times a week and any other chance she got until her 93rd year. She was a member of the Quispamsis Seniors Club and in her 92nd year received the honour of a lifetime membership. Lila was a wonderful cook as can be attested to by her many friends and family who had the great fortune to be on the receiving end. She had a great sense of humour and found much joy in the love of her family and friends. She is survived by her three daughters, Donna, Halifax, Jean Osborne (Bill Shea), Quispamsis and Gail (John) Rocca, Rothesay; sisters-in-law, Kaye Hooper, Saint John and Martha Richards, Montague, PEI; grandchildren, John (Traci) Osborne, Scott (Jenn) Osborne, Mark (Shannon) Osborne, Jillian (Keith) Dunlop and Jane (Mark) Driscoll; great-grandchildren, Meaghan, Joshua, Amelia and Graeson; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest Richards; son-in-law, Tom Osborne; sister, Jean; brothers, Vernon and Keith. The family would like to thank Lila’s very special friends, Pete Logan, Helen Martin, Helen Davey and Linda Denton, who provided her with wonderful care, at home, during the past three years. We couldn’t have managed to give Mom the quality of life she enjoyed without you. We also wish to thank the staff at the Kings Way Care Centre for their kind and caring way with our mother and with us, her family, during the past few months of her life. We cannot say enough to the many friends and family who have taken the time to visit with Mom once she was not able to keep in touch with others on her own. She always found such joy in being surrounded by her friends and family. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held from Quispamsis United Church, on Thursday, October 9th, 2008, at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the service, in the church hall. A private interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens, Saint John, NB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Quispamsis United Church, Kings Way Care Centre or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
