Obituary of Edmund Frederick VanWart
The death of Edmund VanWart of Rothesay, NB, husband of Joan (Haslett) VanWart, occurred on Monday, September 8th, 2008 at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home, Saint John, NB. Born in Gorham’s Bluff, NB, he was the son of the late Frederick and Belle (Ramsay) VanWart. Edmund was self employed for much of his life. His early years were spent farming and lumbering. Later, Edmund and Joan started a home style bakery at Hammond River called “Grandmother’s Pantry.” They also added an antique shop onto the same premises. Edmund also had, at various times, antique shops in Saint John. Both Edmund and Joan traveled the antique circuit, selling at mall shows from Sydney, NS to Ottawa, ON. Edmund’s hobbies included a large book and bell collection. He also enjoyed playing the piano, guitar and harmonica. Besides his wife, Joan, Edmund is survived by three sons, Douglas VanWart, Quispamsis, NB, Norman VanWart, Rothesay, NB, Neil VanWart (Amy), FL; three daughters, Shirley Rolfe, Rothesay, NB, Lynn Wilcox (Guy), ON, Glenda VanWart (Stuart), AB; two sisters, Ruth Hope, Gorham’s Bluff, NB, Dorothy Arthurs (Carl), ON; 10 granddaughters; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (506) 849-2119 where visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held from Kennebecasis Chapel on Friday, September 12th, 2008, at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the service, at the funeral home. Interment will take place in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery, Whitehead, NB. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of NB, St. Paul’s Church, Whitehead, NB or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB.
